In celebration of the opening of the exhibition Cocktail Culture—an exploration of the social ritual of the cocktail party through the lens of fashion and design—a cocktail reception and exclusive exhibition preview will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011.

Proceeds from the Cocktail Culture Exhibition Opening Gala will benefit the Museum’s Education and Public Programs and will support a wide range of creative initiatives related to exhibitions, collections, educational programming, technology, and staff and audience development.

The Cocktail Culture exhibition will feature approximately 150 objects drawn from collections at the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Newark Museum; the Tiffany & Co. Archive; and private lenders. The exhibition will include examples of fashionable cocktail attire by major designers such as Cristobal Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Jeanne Lanvin, Yves Saint Laurent, Norman Norell, Scaasi, Valentino, Pierre Cardin; accessories by Elsa Schiaparelli, Tiffany, Judith Leiber, Christian Dior, Van Cleef and Arpel, and Kenneth Jay Lane; and decorative arts; photography; and illustration.
